David Benoit "So Nice"

So Nice, a phrase with a nice ring to it, but its also a great description for David Benoit. With it being the title cut from the new duet CD by David Benoit and Marc Antoine released July 21, 2017, on the Shanachie record label.

The not only soft spoken artist but very witty and inviting made for an enjoyable conversa-tion.  Having seen him recently perform at the 19th Annual Eric Marienthal and Friends concert that also featured Oleta Adams in Newport Beach, CA a the Hyatt Regency I get to see the essence of the artist both on and off stage.

As I come to find out that this is persona the majority of the time as he invites friends, family, and associates as guest to his home and performs impromptu mini concerts for their enjoyment.  Having purchased a lot next to his, he configured it into a lovely venue with various configuration for either solo to jam session with other artists.

For his musical enjoyment, David’s has a plethora of artists that he listens to ranging from Grammy winner Elaine Elais to Oscar Peterson.

The music of David Benoit inspires me and others as he writes for both his fans at times thinking its something they want to hear like the duet with Marc Antoine, as David puts it “this is for the fans who like the real melodic piano that can sing and be beautiful with a really good groove to it, I really like it as it takes me back to my roots, as the groove is really important.” And then he writes for himself as he has his own very personal music that he has not shared with anyone. While he gets his inspiration from occasional walks while on a retreat or having to meet a deadline which sparks his creative juices to flowing to get a new record done are some of his motivations and inspirations.  And now with the completion of “So Nice” David is taking a hiatus from composing after writing so much at the beginning of the year with a combination of 4 new albums for this year as the last one to be released is with Dave Koz, a Christmas CD. So I say a rest is well deserved for now until those inspirations come back again and we will see what next year brings.
