Jay Rowe’s Annual Smooth Jazz for Scholars

jayrowe5890.jpg

Now in its 13th year, The Smooth Jazz for Scholars benefit concert took place on April 24th and 25th at the Parsons Complex in the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

Created by local resident and world renowned jazz musician Jay Rowe who gathered a terrific line-up of musicians on both nights. As he does every year, Jay Rowe donates a generous portion of the ticket sales back to the Milford Public Schools Music Department to thank all the teachers who were there for him as he began his musical career.  Rowe has donated more than $66,000 to the Milford music program since the benefit concert’s inception.

Featured Musicians - Friday: Jay Rowe-Keyboards, Jay Dobbins-Electric Guitar, Rohn Lawrence-Electric Guitar, Marion Meadows-Soprano Saxophone, Peter White-Acoustic Guitar

Featured Musicians - Saturday: Jay Rowe-Keyboards, Marc Antoine-Acoustic Guitar, Nelson Rangel-Alto Sax, Flute, Piccolo, Chielli Minucci-Electric and Acoustic Guitar, Jackiem Joyner-Alto Sax

The backup band members for both nights included Dave Anderson-Bass Guitar, Trevor Summerville-Drums, Steve Scales-Percussion

Jay Rowe gave us two wonderful nights of fantastic music, great fun and as a charitable benefit for the Milford school system in which Rowe presented an $8,000 check to the Board of Education at its regular business meeting on Monday evening.
