Annie Lennox "Nostalgia"

Record Label:  Blue Note Records

For over 30 years, Annie Lennox has been forging new trails in the music world as a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and activist. Annie Lennox was one half of the British new wave music duo Eurythmics (Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart). Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) released as a single in early 1983, is one of their biggest hits, and the song which provided the group with their breakthrough into commercial success.

Annie Lennox was known for her androgynous looks and short cropped red hair. But, what captured the hearts of music lovers, was her powerfully haunting and melodic vocal style. The Eurythmics split up in 1990, and Lennox embarked on a solo career in 1992 with her debut album, "Diva," which produced several hit singles including "Why" and "Walking on Broken Glass." To date, she has released five solo studio albums and a compilation album, The Annie Lennox Collection (2009).

Aside from her eight Brit Awards, she has also collected four Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music Award. In 2002, Lennox received a Billboard Century Award; the highest accolade from Billboard Magazine. In 2004, she won both the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Into the West," written for the soundtrack to the feature film The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Annie Lennox is a divine musical spirit. Lennox releases a new jazz cd today October 21, 2014. "Nostalgia" is a compilation of African American classics and American classics. The 10 remastered songs, takes us on wonderful musical journey of joy and pain as the arrangements on this new CD gives a dark and haunting jazz experience that you will love, but it is the perfect blend of a captivating chorus in the background and Lennox's intense vocals infused with superb instrumentals that resonates from head to toe.

The introduction and the ending of the chorus in the background of "Memphis In June" captures that ole time vaudeville feeling. Her 2nd installment "Georgia" is reminiscent of the down home smell of magnolia trees, and Sunday dinners with family. One of my favorites "I Put A Spell On You" sends chills up and down the spine with her deep, dark clarity and vocal performance. My next favorite is "Summertime" is excellent, Annie Lennox delivers a melodic style that gets the listener caught up in the rapture. What a surprise, I was trapped and amazed by her dark vocals and deep tone on the 5th installment "Strange Fruit." Her voice blew me away.

All the songs from "God Bless The Child," "You Belong To Me," "September In The Rain," "I Can Dream, Can't I" and "The Nearness Of You" are pure works of art.

Produce with meaningful and powerful deep emotions. Annie Lennox has manage to maintain the integrity of these timeless classics, and infused them with her uniquely brilliant vocals. Annie Lennox's powerful voice shines through on every song the entire CD is moving and every song is a wonderful listening experience.

"Nostalgia" will forever be the listener's "Mood Indigo."
