R&B singer KEM’s new Christmas CD “What Christmas Means” is definitely a stocking stuffer and sure to please for KEM fans. The CD released in early October combines a versatile musical collage for the listener. Reflections of the birth of Christ, KEM’s difficult past and personal battles, as well as a little romance is all captured in this collection of tunes.
During the first listen, “A Christmas Song for You” exudes the love and caring feelings that most share during the holidays and ultimately winds down with a fun filled and favorite of many children and adults, “Christmas Time is Here”, the original tune from a Charlie Brown Christmas. KEM also showcases his spiritual nature in the tender lyrics of “Glorify the King.” Anyone familiar with KEM’s difficult past and personal trials understands the lyrics and open heartfelt praise of Christ. Then there is the romantic soulful duet with Ledisi, titled “Be Mine for Christmas” which takes you on wonderful romantic ride with each hook and lyric.
KEM’s ability to infuse his jazzy, secular, and R&B crooning as he ventures in many musical directions on this CD would prove difficult for other artists; but somehow KEM manages to present a classic Christmas album. The variety in this CD has something for that special person or for the entire family to enjoy during the holidays and is not one to pass on.
